Research Links High Omega-3 Intake with Lowered Risk of Cardiovascular Disease
Brought to you from the Natural Dispensary Wellness Team

Approximately 1,000 Japanese men and women over the age of 70 were surveyed to assess their dietary intake of omega-3 fatty acids (primarily from fish) to their C-reactive protein (CRP) lab values. CRP is a blood marker for inflammation, and high levels of CRP can be indicative of a high risk for cardiovascular disease.

The survey collected dietary information, such as alcohol intake and fish consumption, as well as lifestyle factors, such as smoking and prescription drug use. Researchers found that those who ate more fish and plant sources of omega-3s had reduced their risk of having high CRP levels.

Because of concerns about mercury contamination in fish, many choose fish oil supplements to get their omega-3s. Super Omega-3 Fish Oils, from Carlson Laboratories, is derived from a special concentrate of fish body oils from deep, cold-water fish including mackerel and sardines. It is sourced from Norwegian waters and rich in DHA and EPA. All Carlson fish oils are regularly tested using AOAC international protocols for potency and purity by an independent FDA-registered laboratory and are found to be free of detectable levels of mercury, cadmium, lead, PCBs, and 28 other contaminants.

Because of the purity, Carlson fish oils were recently selected to be used in a National Institutes of Health randomized clinical trial designed to evaluate treatment efficacy for patients with Type II diabetes and CAD. This trial is expected to extend at least through May 2007.

The Natural Dispensary Wellness Team will be sure to keep you posted on the results!
